Workshops for Supervisors on analyst’s work

ARCA increases availability due to high demand

Due to demand ARCA is pleased to announce the availability of further workshops, for asbestos removal supervisors, which focus on analyst’s work and the supervisors’ responsibilities.

Workshops have been scheduled throughout the rest of the year with the next workshops being at Rayleigh on 10th June, Burton on 21st June and Glasgow on 28th June.

ARCA created this workshop to support members’ supervisors and managers to gain a better understanding of their responsibilities relating to analyst’s work on an asbestos removal site.  The half-day workshop covers two specific topics, the 4 stage clearance process and personal monitoring.

“The level of interest in this workshop has been very high, so we have arranged further workshops and I’m already discussing in-house workshops with some contractors,” commented Satish Patel, Training Manager for ARCA

ARCA holds workshops for Supervisors on analyst’s work

After a successful pilot ARCA is pleased to announce the availability of workshops for asbestos removal supervisors which focus on analyst’s work and their responsibilities.

Earlier this month ARCA ran the first workshop at their training centre in Rayleigh to support members’ supervisors and managers in better understanding their responsibilities relating to analyst’s work on an asbestos removal site.  The workshop covered two specific topics, the 4 stage clearance process and personal monitoring.

“This first workshop was fully booked and feedback was very positive,” commented Satish Patel, Training Manager for ARCA. “Following this successful pilot and due to the high level of interest, we are planning to hold this workshop at our training centres across the country throughout the year, with the next workshop being held at Burton upon Trent on 25th May.”

“This workshop was just what my team needed. It will help our supervisors work closer with analysts, as it reemphasised the role of the supervisor and what the analysts personal monitoring findings actually mean,” commented Tony Darsey, Managing Director of Erith Contractors Ltd.

“Personal monitoring and the information given to supervisors by analysts is part of the process of controlling asbestos exposure to individuals. This ARCA workshop was excellent, giving enough detail and clear explanations to help supervisors make the best use of the analysts’ reports so helping to keep the lowest levels of exposure possible,” said Scott Murray, Managing Director of ECT Environmental Ltd.

To gain this qualification the operatives undertook on-site assessments to demonstrate their abilities to the ARCA assessor, so providing actual evidence of their competency.  Following this the ARCA assessor produced a portfolio of evidence for each candidate which were then submitted to the CITB National Specialists Accredited Centre (NSAC) for verification.

“Congratulations to Jake, Gary and Chris on gaining their NVQ Diploma,” said Satish Patel, Training Manager for ARCA.

“After a successful pilot we offer this NVQ to all our members to support CSCS card applications and also support members who pay the CITB levy as they can apply to the CITB for grants. My thanks to Steve Hyatt, from NSAC, for his support during the development of our assessment strategy.”

Peter Humphries, Regional Director at Rhodar, stated, “The feedback I received from my operatives was very positive. They commented that the assessment process was undertaken in a supportive manner, and the ARCA assessor put them at ease throughout the theory and practical on-site assessments.”

Full information on the NVQ Level 2 Diploma is available on the ARCA web site.

ARCA launch NVQ for Asbestos Operatives

NVQ qualification supports CSCS card application

After a successful pilot ARCA is pleased to announce the availability of the NVQ Level 2 Diploma for Asbestos Operatives. This recognised competency qualification is for individuals already working in or new to the asbestos removal industry, and supports a candidate’s application for a CSCS card.

To gain this ‘NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Removal of Hazardous Waste (Construction) – Licensed Asbestos’ there are two routes:

The On-Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) route is for operatives with over a years’ experience working in the asbestos removal industry. This route is ideal for individuals who want to continue in an operative role, require a CSCS card and have industry experience but no formal qualifications.

The Specialist Upskilling Programme (SUP) route is for operatives who require training (via Training Needs Analysis) prior to undertaking the competency assessments. Therefore, the SUP is ideal for those who are new to the industry or who are returning to the industry/operative role.

Employers who pay the CITB levy, and meet all CITB requirements, can apply for a grant for each candidate.

Information on the OSAT and SUP routes, fees and grants, along with some frequently asked questions, can be found on the ARCA web site.

Do you need a CSCS card? Gaining the NVQ Level 2 Diploma supports a candidate’s application for a blue skilled worker CSCS card. Also, once registered on the NVQ a candidate can apply for a Trainee or Experienced Worker red CSCS card, which will be valid for a year.
