This Summer saw an incredible attendance at the ARCA member regional meetings, with the South East meeting attracting a record 41 attendees.
The Association’s member regional meetings are held as a forum to provide information, instruction and training, and the summer round of meetings was no exception. During these meetings members heard about and discussed the HSE draft Plan of Work guidance, the new RSPH Level 3 NVQ for asbestos removal supervisors and the high standards of work demonstrated by ARCA members via the Association’s Site Audit Accreditation Scheme. Asbestos removal contractors were also able to talk to some associate members/suppliers and hear about a new software management product.
“Three times a year we hold six member regional meetings, which includes two in the North of England, and all consistently attract good numbers of attendees. Yet this June the South East meeting broke the record with 41 attendees,” commented Steve Sadley, Chief Executive of ARCA.
“These meetings are excellent for us to meet members and provide information, as well as being a forum for discussion and member networking.”
In November 2017 ARCA began to issue Certificates of Attendance to all individuals that attend member regional meetings as a record that those individuals had received the information, instruction and training listed on the certificate.

ARCA, the UK’s leading association representing asbestos removal contractors, will be exhibiting at the Contamination Expo Series on 12 – 13 September 2018 at the NEC Birmingham.
This is the third year the Contamination Expo Series has been held, however it is the first year the Expo will be at the NEC.
The event will be made up of seven sectors, including hazardous waste and land remediation, all focussed on providing information on, and solutions for, contamination issues.
“For ARCA the event provides a platform to continue communicating how to safely manage asbestos, highlighting property owners and managers’ legal responsibilities, and how ARCA and its members can support them,” comments Steve Sadley, Chief Executive of the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA).
“One of our aims is to continually raise professional standards across the industry; developing and delivering training and qualifications (competency), and last year saw ARCA members’ site audits (two per year) becoming ‘unannounced’, so strengthening this method of reassurance for all parties, including end-clients.”
“We are delighted to have the support of ARCA again this year as having asbestos experts at the event is crucial,” stated Daniel Rogers, Events Director of the Contamination Expo Series. “Having the attendance of this leading association will help drive the messages about asbestos to the professionals involved in managing the health and safety risks associated with asbestos in buildings.”

ARCA, the UK’s leading association representing asbestos removal contactors, announces the availability of the first NVQ for asbestos removal supervisors.
The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Supervising Licensed Asbestos Removal (Construction) has been developed by ARCA specifically for asbestos removal supervisors, following consultation with industry, and certificated through RSPH (awarding body).
Now asbestos removal supervisors can gain one qualification, rather than two, to obtain a gold CSCS card, saving businesses time and cost.
“As the leading association, supporting our members and the industry by developing one encompassing qualification for supervisors was our goal,” commented Satish Patel, Training Manager for ARCA.
The Sector Skills Council (SSC, CITB) agreed ARCA could review the framework of the Occupational Workers Supervisory NVQ to see how it could be tailored for the asbestos removal industry. After this review and selection of the learning units to be included in the qualification, industry was consulted to ensure the content verified the knowledge and understanding required to carry out a supervisor’s role and responsibilities
“Feedback was very positive, with the qualification content confirmed, so we worked with RSPH to complete all documentation and I carried out a pilot of the on-site assessment process,” stated Satish Patel.
“Having the support of the SSC, the industry and also RSPH, ARCA is now delivering a specifically designed qualification for asbestos removal supervisors.”
